City Government

Mayor The Mayor of Uniontown is David Smith. Elected on January 2002. Mayor Smith is dedicated to the Town of Uniontown and it's residents.

Duties of the Mayor
The Mayor is the Chief Executive Officer of the Town. The Town of Uniontown has a Mayor/Council form of government. This means the Mayor is elected by the people and has specific duties as opposed to being a council member appointed by the rest of the council to run the council meetings. It is the Mayor’s responsibility to carry out the legislative directives of the Council. The Mayor also presides over the regular and special meetings of the the Council. The Mayor appoints various officials for the City including the Clerk/Treasurer, the Attorney, and Municipal Court Judge

Term of Office
Mayor Smith's term expires 12/31/2009. The position of Mayor is an elective office. The term of office is four years. To be eligible to be Mayor, one must be an electorate of the Town. This means you must be a registered voter and reside or live in the Town. To be a registered voter you have to be eighteen years of age, United States citizen, and not have lost your civil rights. The elective process is filing as a candidate in the Office of the Whitman County Auditor. Then elections will be held in November. The winner of the election takes office January of the following year.

Town Council

Duties of Town Council
The Council is the legislative body of the Town of Uniontown. As such, the Council passes all ordinances and resolutions. The Council sets the policies for the Town and the Mayor carries out those policies.

Regular Council Meetings are generally held on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in Town Hall. (NOTE: Meeting date may change to the second Tuesday depending on holidays -please watch your newsletter or local postings). Please call Town Hall 229-3805 if you wish to be added to the Agenda.
